August 2020 Reads

Here’s a list of books we plan to read during the month of August! Let us know in the comments below which books are on your TBR list for next month. We’re always looking for new recommendations.

1. Entwined by AJ Rosen

Amazon.com: Entwined (9781989365120): Rosen, A.J.: Books

In this fantasy book, all characters are descendants of Greek Gods and Goddesses. Avery is about to turn 18, which means it’s time for the Gathering, where she is supposed to find her soulmate. One problem: Avery doesn’t want a soulmate, she wants to escape.

We requested an ARC of Entwined on Netgallery because of the Greek mythology aspect! We can’t wait to finish this one.

2. Stealing Home by Becky Wallace

Amazon.com: Stealing Home eBook: Wallace, Becky: Kindle Store

Stealing Home is the book we’re most excited to read in August! Seventeen-year-old Ryan Russel dreams of taking over the family business: owning the Buckley Beavers, the minor league baseball team and making history as one of few female general managers in baseball. But when child-phenom Sawyer Campbell arrives at training, he threatens to throw a major curveball in her plans.

With the start of baseball season, we couldn’t resist reading this adorable YA contemporary. You all know baseball is our favorite sport! Check back with us later next month for our full review!

3. Recommended For You by Laura Silverman

Shoshana loves her life. She has great friends, supportive moms and an awesome job at an independent bookstore. The only problem: her mom’s are fighting a lot and Shoshana doesn’t know what to do. Then, an arrogant guy named Jake (who doesn’t even read!) gets a job at the bookstore. When it feels like her life is getting out of control, Shoshana will do anything to bring everything back to normal. But, everyone learns that they can’t control everything that happens.

We’re so excited for this romantic comedy predominantly set at a bookstore. We can’t wait to nerd out with Shoshana.

4. The Bad Boy and the Tomboy by Nicole Nwosu

Macy Anderson has always been one of the guys. She focuses more on soccer and school than she does on dating. When the charming and popular Cedric asks her out, Macy is happily surprised. But, Cedric’s cousin Sam isn’t happy about the arrangement. Unfortunately, Sam starts showing up everywhere. But, spending time with Sam could get Macy in trouble. After all, he’s a bad boy. If only Macy could let him go…

We love a good hate-to-love trope, so we cannot wait to read this romance!

5. Not If I Save You First by Ally Carter

35238072

Considering we love Gallagher Girls, we cannot wait for another book by Carter! Maddie and Logan used to be best friends. One kidnapping attempt later and they haven’t seen each other in years. Even though the kidnappers were stopped, Maddie’s dad shipped her to Alaska for safety.

Years later, Logan returns to Maddie’s life…only for both of them to get attacked right away. The two must escape together and find out why someone has been after them for years. We’re excited to read another thriller that’ll leave us on the edge of our seats. Not If I Save You First hopefully has it all: political elite, action and adventure!

6. They Wish They Were Us by Jessica Goodman

Jill Newman attends an exclusive prep school on Long Island. On the outside, Jill’s life is perfect, but nothing is as it seems, especially since three years ago Jill’s best friend Shaila Arnold was killed by her boyfriend on the beach. Flash forward to her senior year, and Jill is living her best life as a member of her school’s not-so-secret society, The Players. She’s spent the last three years putting the past behind her. After all, Graham, Shaila’s boyfriend, confessed to the crime. Case closed, right? Wrong. When Jill begins receiving texts proclaiming Graham’s innocence, any chance of a perfect senior year falls through her fingertips. If Shaila’s case isn’t closed and Graham didn’t kill her, then who did? Jill is determined to find out before the killer claims her as their next victim.

We love a good murder mystery! Throw in unsupervised rich kids and we’re hooked. They Wish They Were Us is marketed as Gossip Girl meets One of Us Is Lying “with a dash of The Secret History.”

  1. Really like the sound of Entwined as well as some of the others. But that one particularly. As they’re YA I think I might be a bit old for them but they remind me of when I was a teen and I know I would have loved some of these

  2. This looks like a great list. I have just started Toll, the third in the Arc of a Scythe series. The first 2 books had me glued, so I’m looking forward to making my way through this one. I also just got my hands on Bianca Del Rio’s book and can’t wait to read it!!! I LOVE her!

  4. An interesting list. Admittedly, I haven’t heard of any of these books, but some of them sound quite interesting. I will have to add them to my TBR. I hope you are able to get through all of these and that you enjoy them.

  6. I definitely just added most of these to my TBR. They sound really fun! I’m a sucker for a good YA book, and these are all so interesting to me. Especially Entwined, because I’m a huge fan of Greek mythology.
