Blog Tour: Recommended For You by Laura Silverman

*We received this book in exchange for an honest review.*

Shoshana Greenburg loves three things more than anything: her family, her friends and books!  Over winter break, she spends all her free time working at an independent bookstore, Once Upon.

But when Jake Kaplan starts working there, Shoshana and him clash immediately. He doesn’t read, yet he works at a bookstore and he’s totally obnoxious. To top it all off, her mom’s have been fighting more than usual and her car, Barbra Streisand, broke down. Shoshana needs to come up with the money for repairs.

Luckily, her boss at the bookstore starts a winter sales competition. Whoever can sell the most books before Christmas Eve wins a bonus check! Except, Jake is just as determined to win.

Shoshana believes with hard work, she can solve all her problems. However, we all have to learn at some point we can’t control everything. Will Shoshana be able to make a difference or will all her effort be for nothing?

Recommended For You is so cute! We were so lucky to be asked to participate in this blog tour. First, the setting of an independent bookstore made us so excited. We love bookstores and when we saw the romance would be centered around the store, we couldn’t resist. Second, the book is funny and heartfelt at the same time.

Shoshana and Jake had amazing chemistry and banter. They were always engaged in a battle of wits and we were dying at some of their one-liners. Shoshana truly loved all of her coworkers and friends. Their bonds, combined with the holiday spirit, gave us the warm and fuzzies!

Shoshana is a relatable MC. All she wants to do is help everyone. Even when she makes mistakes, her heart is always in the right place. Her moms were the absolute worst. They were completely self-absorbed and chose to be petty. They neglected Shoshana and bickered over stupid stuff instead. All Shoshana wanted to do was bring them together. In the end, we were glad they chose to put their daughter first. Shoshana was also an amazing friend– always encouraging and supporting them to follow their dreams. Though she took a few mis-steps along the way, we admired her dedication and sense of loyalty.

The romance was cute and sweet. Though Jake and Shoshana got off on the wrong foot, watching their relationship blossom was worth it. It’s rare you find such a sweet and pure romance these days.

We’re also excited to see more Jewish representation in YA. Both Shoshana and Jake are Jewish and they even bake Dreidel cookies together. If you’re looking for a light romcom to get you in the (very early) holiday spirit, definitely pick this one up!
