YA Authors: Who Have We Met?

We’ve been lucky! Between the two of us, we’ve met some of our favorite YA authors. We’ll add to this list as soon as we meet more. If you’re a YA author reading this, come visit the D.C. metro area!

1. Jennifer L. Armentrout

Amazon.com: The Darkest Star (Origin Series, 1) (9781250175731): Armentrout, Jennifer L.: Books

Claire met JLA at her YA/NA event, Apollycon, in 2018! Claire has been a fan of Armentrout’s since 2012, so she fangirled hardcore when she finally got to meet her. Who wouldn’t want to meet the mind behind Aiden St. Delphi. Armentrout is as fabulous as she seems on social media— so fun and charming. Her event was amazing and we’d definitely love to go again post-COVID. She even brought in the actor that plays Seth in her promos. Claire took a pic with him and JLA— ha!

Mini-Review: Row by Sarah Mello

*We received this chapter in exchange for an honest review/preview.*

You all know our love for the Westcott High series by Sarah Mello! We’ve raved about the series on our blog before and are anxiously awaiting the release of book 3. So when Sarah reached out and asked if we’d like to preview the first chapter of her next book, Row, we jumped at the chance.

Row is about Cole Hensley, who has the ability to feel others’ emotions– an empath. He lives in a small town and works at a camera shop in his spare time to escape his helicopter mother, who still struggles with the passing of Cole’s father. There is a touch of mystery to this book, as we find out during an exchange in the principal’s office that Cole’s coworker (friend? love interest? maybe-something-more?), Row, drowned in a lake on a class trip. The chapter ends on a cliffhanger that we won’t give away, but we are already super intrigued by Cole’s interest in Row’s case.

Now, we only read the first chapter, but it definitely drew us in. We love a good murder mystery/thriller and want to learn more about what happened to Row and her relationship with Cole. We really liked that the first chapter alternated between flashbacks and the present day. It gave us a peek into Row’s life when she was alive, and Cole’s initial impressions of her. Mello revealed bits and pieces about what happened to Row, but we need more information.

Final verdict: Mello definitely drew us in and we can’t wait to pick up the full book when it releases on January 11, 2021!

Our Favorite Jennifer L. Armentrout Books!

In honor of Jennifer L. Armentrout’s upcoming release, we have made a ranked list of our favorite JLA novels. Check out JLA’s newest book, The Burning Shadow, out on October 8th!

**Note: since JLA is a writing goddess, she has a lot of books, most of which are series. For the purposes of this list, we grouped her series together instead of listing out individual books. For example, JLA’s novel, Half-Blood, is group with the Covenant series, etc. Also, we are only ranking JLA’s YA novels, though, she has written many romance and New Adult books if those are more your speed!

Claire had the honor of meeting JLA at her YA/Romance book convention, Apollycon, and she was the sweetest human! JLA is one of our favorite authors and all of her books are worth checking out. We hope you enjoy them the way we have!
